My New Year's resolutions

Uh oh it's been 10 days since my last post.. I will try to write more often. I wanted to post something about communication because I've been reflecting a lot on this topic recently, but I'll leave it for another time. I will dedicate this post on my New Year's resolutions.

First one will be to read more, I want to use every opportunity I have to read. When I'm on the way, when I'm waiting, when I am just chilling. I'm mainly talking about print books, but I will keep on reading blogs and e-books when I am in front of my notebook. At present I am reading the e-book versions of "Future Shock" by Alvin Toffler and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins (special thanks to my dad who sent them to me) and that proves to be more tiring than reading print books. I am conservative when it comes to books, I like to be able to take them everywhere and hold them in my hands. I don't mind having virtual copies as they are very browse-able but reading a whole virtual book takes some of the pleasure of reading it for me.

The other one is to focus on the present moment. That is to enjoy whatever is happening now. Too many times I fail to enjoy the moment because my mind is somewhere else - I'm either reflecting on something that already happened or I'm thinking about something to come. Not saying that you shouldn't think about things that have happened but you should be able to learn your lesson and let go. Similarly fantasizing about the future is not a bad thing if you do it a little. But if you do it all the time you won't be able to see and enjoy the things that are happening to you now. And if you build up a picture of how you want it to be you will be most likely disappointed. There are a lot of things that we can change and do, but I believe there are as many that don't depend on us and we shouldn't expect them to be in an exact way. I like what Stefan Sagmeister wrote in his book "Things I've Learned in My Life so Far": Low expectations are the best strategy.

My online dairy

I once read that keeping a diary supports self-improvement. This blog will be something like my online diary. When I say diary I mean the place where I gather my thoughts and reflections as opposed to a book in which you write your experiences each day (Macmillan dictionary). I kept an offline one a while ago, but it's too chaotic and I thought if I published it online, I'd make effort to order my thoughts and present them better. I will try to blog at least once a week to start with and see how that goes. So this week's post is about friendship.

So let me start by describing friendship as I understand it. It is about mutual trust and understanding, feeling that you can rely on each other, ability to share everything/anytime, supporting each other, caring for each other. It is also to be tamed as Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry put it in his book "The Little Prince": if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world...".

Few people have actually tamed me and they are unique in all the world for me:

Nina - she is my lovely one. I treasure every moment spent with her. Very kind, funny, considerate, very very sweet

Raly - she is my "mootsi" or my "zelentse" (can't translate these). Known her since we were eight. Very crazy, wild, adventurous, funny too. She did drama and she's very good at it, might become an actress one day

This is one of my favourite photos of Raly and me

Denise - matskata mi (another one i can't translate). Ain't no fun without her. She's the one that understands me and supports me and goes through it all with me. Very smart, charming, understanding, of course she's very funny too. Really lucky to have a friend like her.

They are my "best-est" friends, the ones I can trust about everything and the ones that have a special place in my heart. Thank you girls for being there for me when I needed you and for staying true! I love you and I can't wait to be with you again! Denise, I'll see you the soonest (cause we currently live together); Raly and Nina, see you when I come home! Take good care of yourselves and until we meet again, kisses.

Hello

Since I am not too good with words I thought it will be nice to start my blog with a photo. This is one of my favourite shots. I took it in Nicosia, CY a few months ago.
